Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that the main responsibility for controlling corruption rests with the government and the executive branch.
Addressing the 35th establishment day ceremony of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Prime Minister said that although adequate legal, policy and structural mechanisms exist in the country to control corruption, the expected results have not yet been achieved.
She stressed that meaningful reform would not be possible if corruption control efforts are separated from the executive branch. According to her, the heads of agencies and offices must take responsibility for corruption and bribery occurring within their respective institutions.
Prime Minister Karki emphasized the need for a strong sense of responsibility, awareness and commitment among civil servants, political leaders and all stakeholders to effectively control corruption.
Referring to the Gen-G youth-led movement on Bhadra 23 and 24, she said the demonstrations highlighted the public’s demand for good governance and anti-corruption measures. She added that, in response, the government has prioritized citizen-friendly administration and governance reforms.
